Andy & Helen are
both professional artists. Helen is a printmaker and painter
working from home. Andy, a painter, also works from home and has a
workshop for sculpture work. They are both inspired by Mull, its
landscape, wildlife and flora.
Helen often paints on wood with gouache and
goldleaf, the panels housed in glass fronted boxes. Feathers, fish
and birds' eggs are favourite subjects.
Andy paints in oils,
birds in their surroundings - sometimes appearing detailed, but on close
inspection the paint is applied deftly. Other painting s are more
abstract, capturing more the mood, light and movement of the scene.
His sculptures in steel, stainless steel, wood and copper are influenced
by the sea and weather.
Examples
of their creativity can be found throughout the house, together with
other respected and treasured pieces by fellow artist friends.
Most of their work is exhibited on the island. They try to have a
couple of shows a year and have exhibited throughout Scotland. A
Christmas show held every other year at Frachadil is very popular.
They have a strong sense
of community and feel completely fulfilled. You don't have to
wander too far from the door to find an endless supply of inspiration.
There is a thriving artistic community on Mull. An Tobar, the arts
centre in Tobermory, being its stage for the visual and performing arts.
